Self-Determination Plan

Self-Determination Plan

IPAA Victoria is committed to supporting Australia’s reconciliation journey and to positively connecting public sector people, knowledge and ideas. We acknowledge and respect the culture and contributions of First Nations peoples and recognise that genuine and lasting reconciliation strengthens prosperity for all Australians, including by adding value to the work we do.

Following the completion of our Reconciliation Action Plan in October 2024, IPAA Victoria took time to reflect on where we can make the most meaningful difference. Based on strong advice from our First Peoples Advisory Committee, we decided not to progress a new RAP and instead to develop a Self-Determination Plan. This approach allows us to focus our efforts where we have the greatest expertise and influence, particularly in training and professional development.

The purpose of IPAA Victoria’s Self-Determination Plan

IPAA Victoria’s Self-Determination Plan sets out a focused, practical approach that is local, grounded and aligned with our core purpose. It reflects our commitment to supporting Aboriginal self-determination through areas where we can contribute to lasting capability, opportunity and impact across the Victorian public purpose sector.

The purpose of the Self-Determination Plan is to deliver and achieve meaningful outcomes that are based on its core function of training and development for First Nations Victoria public purpose sector staff and IPAA Victoria members.

IPAA Victoria, together with the First Peoples’ Advisory Committee, has agreed to focus on the following 3 goals of the Victorian Aboriginal Affairs Framework:

Aboriginal learners achieve their full potential after school.

Aboriginal workers achieve wealth equity.

Strong Aboriginal workforce participation, in all sectors and at all levels.
