IPAA Victoria celebrates the winners of the Top 50 Women Awards 2026

Leadership excellence across Victoria’s public sector was recognised and celebrated at the 2026 Top 50 Women awards on Thursday 6 August, bringing together outstanding women whose contributions are improving outcomes for communities, organisations and the sector. 

The awards showcase women at different stages of leadership, from established executives driving significant organisational and sector-wide impact to emerging leaders already shaping the future of the sector through innovation, influence and service. 

More than a celebration of individual achievement, the awards highlight the depth of talent across Victoria’s public sector and the importance of making leadership visible. Throughout the evening, speakers reflected on the progress made in advancing women in leadership, the value of role models and mentoring, and the collective responsibility to create pathways for future generations of leaders. 

Opening the event, Nicole Brady, IPAA Victoria Board member and chair of the Awards Advisory Committee, acknowledged the exceptional quality of nominations received across both categories and the rigorous, independent assessment process undertaken to select this year’s recipients. She also recognised the support of event partners the Transport Accident Commission, the Victorian Public Sector Commission and Davidson, whose ongoing commitment helps elevate and celebrate women across the sector. 

Recognising leadership that creates impact 

Representing the Transport Accident Commission, Chief Executive Officer Tracey Slatter reflected on the importance of celebrating women whose leadership makes a positive difference to the lives of Victorians. 

“That’s why nights like tonight matter. Because what we’re doing here is really setting the standard of what good leadership looks like, what the impacts are that we’re seeking, and the difference that great leadership can make.” 

Tracey spoke about the importance of visible role models and the influence leaders have on those around them. 

“What we are celebrating here tonight are people who are already role models in their organisations, but who will go on and continue that role even further because of this recognition.”  

Progress and opportunities for women in leadership 

Victorian Public Sector Commissioner Brigid Monagle shared insights into the progress being made across the Victorian public sector. She highlighted that women now represent 51.9 per cent of executives across the sector, up from 39 per cent in 2015.  

While acknowledging this positive trend, Brigid noted there is more work to be done to achieve greater representation in occupations and industries that have traditionally been male dominated. 

“We are really struggling to get women into some of those workforces that are traditionally male,” she said. “But when I was looking through all the winners today, we have got some amazing women in those industries.”  

Supporting the next generation of leaders 

Speaking on behalf of long-term event partner Davidson, Chief Executive Officer Jacqui Wightman reflected on how conversations about women’s leadership have evolved since the awards began in 2017.  

“When the awards began, most of the focus was on representation, ensuring women are seen, recognised and given opportunities to step into leadership roles. Today the conversation has moved beyond simply having women at the table. It’s about ensuring women have genuine influence, access to opportunities and the support to lead authentically.”   

Jacqui emphasised the importance of developing future leaders and creating pathways for women to progress, adding: “If we don’t have emerging leaders, we don’t end up having established leaders.”  

Celebrating the contribution of Victoria’s Top 50 Women 

Closing the celebration, IPAA Victoria Chief Executive Officer Amanda Stevens reflected on the significance of recognising the achievements of women working across the public sector. 

“I think you’ll agree that the women that were acknowledged tonight represent the diversity and incredible value of work that goes on in our sector. It’s such a privilege that we at IPAA Victoria get to shine a light on the contributions of these extraordinary women.”  

IPAA Victoria congratulates all 50 recipients. Their leadership, commitment and service continue to inspire others and demonstrate the significant contribution women make across Victoria’s public purpose sector.
