The Uncle Reg and Aunty Walda Blow Oration

IPAA Victoria’s Uncle Reg and Aunty Walda Blow Oration event will acknowledge and honour the significant contributions Uncle Reg and Aunty Walda Blow made to Victorian First Nations Peoples and Victoria’s public administration.

Treaty, self-determination and truth-telling

The 2022 Oration will be given by Uncle Reg and Aunty Walda Blow’s family members and friends, and have present their daughter Sharon Blow, their granddaughter, and Sharon’s niece.

As part of this important oration event we will also have a panel discussion including Marcus Stewart, Co-chair of the First People’s Assembly of Victoria, who will reflect on and explore themes of Treaty, self-determination and truth-telling, and Professor Eleanor Bourke, Chair of the Yoorrook Justice Commission, who will discuss the Commission’s critical role in ensuring there is a shared understanding of the experiences of First Peoples in Victoria. The panel discussion will explore the cross relationship of the two organisations for Aboriginal people, Treaty and Victoria’s opportunities for change. 

The outcomes of the discussion will be the exploration of:

• the cross-relationship of the two organisations for Aboriginal people
• the particular role the public service can play in the reconciliation process
• a shared understanding of the lived experiences of First Nations peoples in Victoria.

IPAA Victoria’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee invites members and professionals within the public sector to join this Oration event.

IPAA Victoria’s Orations are celebrations that acknowledge the rich cultural history of First Nations Peoples in the Victorian public sector. Led by IPAA Victoria’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee, the Orations celebrate the achievements and contributions of prominent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The last Oration held was the 2018 Jackomos Oration.
