How laws are made: an overview of the legislative process

4 Dec 2025Online

Turning policy ideas into law is a complex and highly coordinated process involving multiple stakeholders across government.

Overview

From initial policy development through to Cabinet approval, Bill drafting, parliamentary scrutiny, and Royal Assent – each stage is critical to the successful implementation of legislative reform.

This webinar provides an overview of how legislation is developed and passed in Victoria. Designed specifically for those within the Victorian Public Purpose Sector involved in policy or legislative work, it offers insights into best practice drafting, the Cabinet and parliamentary processes, and how conventions like the caretaker period impact legislative progress.
