Emerging Aboriginal Leader Scholarship

The Emerging Aboriginal Leader Scholarship acknowledges and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander public sector employees by offering a professional development program to a high performing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who demonstrates significant leadership potential and dedication to the public sector. The award supports broad career pathways in the public sector for First Nations employees and is targeted at those with 7 years’ or less career experience. The scholarship consists of a 12-month professional development package tailored to the needs of the award recipient.

Eligibility Criteria 

Nominees must:

  • Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person

  • Have at least 12 months paid employment experience in the public sector.

Self-nominations and nominations by individuals and organisations are welcome, and more than one scholarship may be awarded at the discretion of the judging panel.

Scholarship Criteria 

Nominees should demonstrate the following:

  • History of involvement in professional and Aboriginal community activities
  • Demonstrated impact/evidence of positive change as a result of participation in other leadership activities
  • Personal and professional qualities demonstrating a willingness and potential to further strengthen leadership skills and experience and take full advantage of the professional development opportunities offered by the scholarship.
