24th May 17
With her very long and broad experience in public sector strategy development, Dahle Suggett is able to bring a hands-on approach to coaching others in the art of strategic planning for the public sector. For nearly every "what if . . ." scenario, Dahle is able to provide a real life example as a case study."
- Greg Thompson, VMIA
This course focuses on structured planning for superior solutions to complex problems in the public sector.
Strategic planning helps us to think through and plan what problem needs to be solved, what we want to achieve and how it can be done. Strategy takes a longer term view and determines a multifaceted course of action based on evidence.
This half day course builds on the Strategic Thinking course and guides participants through a step-by-step framework for strategic planning in the public sector context.
You will be guided through each step of the Strategic Planning Framework, discuss data collection and enquiry tools and apply the framework in groups to a range of case studies to optimise learning. This course uses local case studies as the main teaching tool and requires participants to reflect on their own work in developing strategies and to engage in group reflection. This course has pre-reading.
You will benefit by
- understanding the purpose of strategic planning in the public sector
- working in a group and following an accessible step by step framework to create a strategic plan
- appreciating the relationships between each stage of strategic planning and practical aspects including structures, processes and tools
- understanding the typical tasks, terminology, and outputs for each stage of strategic planning
