Since 1997 these high level briefings have provided an early firsthand overview of the Victorian State Budget and implications for the year ahead. This is an ideal opportunity for public sector professionals to understand how the Budget will influence planning and programs for the coming year.

Your Speakers

David Martine, Secretary, Department of Treasury and Finance

David is the Secretary of the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance. He leads the Department providing economic, policy and service delivery advice to the Victorian Government.

Prior to this David worked as a senior executive in the Commonwealth public sector providing strategic advice to governments on a range of complex economic and other policy issues. He has extensive budget, finance, policy and organisational leadership experience, and has been involved in wide ranging strategic policy reform.

David was educated in Melbourne and has an honours degree in economics from Monash University. He completed his Master of Business Administration in 2005.



Peter Martin, Economics Editor, The Age.

Peter is the correspondent for Australia's leading current programs AM, PM and The World Today and since 2006 the economics correspondent or economics editor for The Sydney Herald, The Age and The Canberra Times.

A former Commonwealth Treasury official with an honours degree in economics, Peter has reported 20 budgets. He has reported for 7.30, LateLine, DateLine, Insight, Background Briefing, and the SBS Business Show.

He is regularly heard or seen on ABC TV's The Drum, ABC Nightlife, ABC Newradio, ABC Canberra 666, Sydney's 2UE and Melbourne's 3AW.

Danielle Woods, Fellow, Grattan Institute

Danielle is a Fellow at the Grattan Institute. Danielle undertakes research and contributes to the public debate on a range of issues including tax and budget policy and intergenerational inequality.

Previously, Danielle worked as Principal Economist at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Senior Consultant at NERA Economic Consulting, a Director in the Merger Investigations Branch of the ACCC as a Senior Research Economist at the Productivity Commission.

Danielle has a Masters of Commerce (Hons) and a Masters in Competition Law (Hons) from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from the University of Adelaide.
