Good decision-making is the foundation of every public sector agency’s success. But despite its vital importance, it’s a skill few people have had the opportunity to be trained in – until now.
As the environment in which public sector organisations operate becomes more competitive, complex and uncertain, the need for individuals and organisations to make good decisions is more important than ever. Drawing on insights from the study of Decision Analysis pioneered at Stanford University, this intensive one-day course provides a practical working knowledge of how to begin making better decisions immediately – knowledge that can be used to improve your individual performance, and contribute to your organisation’s ability to achieve its long-term objectives.
What will you learn?
This course will provide you with a high-quality, evidence-based framework you can use to make better decisions in your role. It will also provide the knowledge, skills and tools to ensure that your short, medium and longer-term decisions are consistently aligned with your agency’s vision, mission, goals, mandate and values.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
Approach future decisions with an understanding of what constitutes a good decision and why
Contribute more effectively to your organisation’s capacity to achieve its objectives through better problem identification, more effective use of information, and alignment with organisational goals
Improve the quality of your short, medium and long-term decisions by developing your ‘decision fitness’
Improve your individual performance and add value to your organisation by consistently making better decisions.
What should you expect?
Despite the importance of high-quality decision-making, most public sector employees do not have the time to study the science of decision-making or investigate the latest, evidence-based research in this area. This interactive course aims to provide you with skills, tools and practical information that can improve the quality of your decisions in a very short space of time. As well as regular courses at IPAA’s head office, Seth Nicholls can deliver courses in-house that are tailored to the needs and sectors of specific public sector audiences.
