Good decision-making is the foundation of every public sector agency’s success. But despite its vital importance, it’s a skill few people have had the opportunity to be trained in – until now.
As the environment in which public sector organisations operate becomes more competitive, complex and uncertain, the need for individuals and organisations to make good decisions is more important than ever. Drawing on insights from the study of Decision Analysis pioneered at Stanford University, this intensive one-day course provides a practical working knowledge of how to begin making better decisions immediately – knowledge that can be used to improve your individual performance, and contribute to your organisation’s ability to achieve its long-term objectives.

What should you expect?
Despite the importance of high-quality decision-making, most public sector employees do not have the time to study the science of decision-making or investigate the latest, evidence-based research in this area. This interactive course aims to provide you with skills, tools and practical information that can improve the quality of your decisions in a very short space of time. As well as regular courses at IPAA’s head office, Seth Nicholls can deliver courses in-house that are tailored to the needs and sectors of specific public sector audiences.
Who is the facilitator?
Dr Seth Nicholls is a policy and decision strategist who has worked as a lecturer in public policy, a policy and project officer in state and federal government, and a consultant to the Victorian, South Australian, Tasmanian and Northern Territory public sectors. He holds a PhD in political science and public policy from the University of Adelaide and is a graduate of Stanford University’s Strategic Decision-Making and Risk Management Program.
