Regional Budget Briefing: Geelong Seminar
The Geelong Briefing, delivered to a capacity crowd of public sector professionals and those that work with government was introduced and chaired by CEO of City of Greater Geelong and IPAA Victoria Fellow, Kay Rundle. The Briefing was critiqued by Claire Higgins, Chair of Barwon Health and a member of the Barwon Water Board who commended some of the regional small ‘gems' in the budget, including funding for the Geelong Arts Precinct and regional health initiatives. Claire concluded that that the 2008-9 Victorian
Budget placed Victoria on a sound, conservative financial footing, delivering on "bread and butter" items such as Health, Education, Justice, and Water. Both Grant Hehir and Claire Higgins were mindful of the challenges ahead for the economy in the light of national and global economic pressures. Both speakers emphasized the need for on-going upgrades to infrastructure - an important theme for regional Victorians.
