IPAA is committed to building an integrated and high achieving public sector.Our events provide a place for the public sector to come together to learn, debate, share experience and explore new ideas. IPAA hosts large scale seminars, keynote addresses, panel sessions, networking functions and briefings.
Building the Business Case
Department of Treasury and Finance share what makes a successful business case for budget funding submissions - including alignment with government objectives and conventions of content, strucutre and format. This seminar is followed by a selection of optional one and a half hour long master classes.
International Women's Day Celebration
The IPAA International Women’s Day Celebration, held in March each year, celebrates the contributions made by women to public administration in Victoria. First held in 2002, this event attracts around 1,400 guests and includes various presentations and musical entertainment in either a dinner or cocktail function format.
IPAA 2012 International Congress
The Institute for Public Administration Australia’s 2012 International Congress will be held in Melbourne, bringing together more than 1000 administrators in one of the largest gatherings of public administrators ever held in Australia. A range of important speakers and innovative sessions have been confirmed.
IPAA Regional Conference
IPAA Victoria, New South Wales & ACT join forces to deliver a regional conference at the Albury Entertainment Centre on 15-16 March 2012.
Leadership in the Public Sector Awards
Acknowledging and valuing leadership is a central part of IPAA’s mission to enhance the capacity, integrity and reputation of the sector. These awards recognise leadership and talent in both individuals and teams at state and national level.

Portraits of Women in Public Service
This project is IPAA’s acknowledgement of the 2011 Centenary of International Women’s Day. A book has been published compiling the perspectives of one hundred women working in and around the public service in Victoria and video interviews are also provided online.
State Budget Briefings
Since 1997 these high level briefings have provided an early firsthand overview of the Victorian State Budget and implications for the year ahead. This is an ideal opportunity for public sector professionals to understand how the Budget will influence planning and programs for the coming year.
VPS Indigenous Network Conference
The VPS Indigenous Network Conference inaugurated on 8 October 2009, is the first step towards creating a vibrant network for Indigenous employees across the Victorian Public Sector. The conference explores ways to build Indigenous presence and contribution throughout the public sector in Victoria, and how best to establish and sustain formal and informal networks. It also provides participants with practical insights into career pathways in the VPS. Please let us know if you would like to join the network.
Writing Seminar
Inspired by Don Watson's observations about public sector writing in his book Death Sentence, this forum examines creative genres not usually associated with public sector writing in a bid to inject creativity, innovation and flair in drafting public policy.
